Starbucks Terminates Advertisements on Facebook and Instagram
The Facebook Company is losing significant problems amid the Black Lives Matter Movement. Multiple retailers have been prompted to suspend their advertisements with social media platforms, which has actively supported heat speeches amid their users for 10+ years. Starbucks is the latest corporation to announce its terminating announcements through Facebook and Instagram, which are both owned by Mark Zuckerberg.
Starbucks isn’t the exclusive brand that’s terminated its advertisements with Facebook. The Coca-Cola Corporation, Unilever, and Diageo have also implemented similar measures. It’s expected that a tsunami of cancellations will now follow after Coca-Cola and Starbucks announced their terminated advertisements. Profit losses for Facebook will enter the billions, which is well deserved after Mark Zuckerberg & Facebook Executives have often invested in organizations that benefit from systemic racism. Locating this information is challenging but available online, showing how social media services like Facebook play an integral role in global issues that plague international societies.
Representatives with the Starbucks Company clarified that their passionate about bringing all communities together, rather than be in an online or physical format. Starbucks PR Team also explained that internal discussions have begun with their media partners, with delegations regarding which civil right organizations can assist Starbucks is terminating hate speech.
It’s not surprising that Starbucks is making such a huge leap forward for the African American community. Their brand is known for maintaining a liberal mindset, often creating programs that assist with relevant issues throughout North America. Both Coca-Cola and Starbucks are now demanding that Facebook implement stronger accountability through its platform. This means moderating content to extremes & banning users that support intolerant movements.
Pausing advertising forces Facebook to lose millions, potentially billions over a prolonged period. Mark Zuckerberg will inevitably cave to the requests of international retailers or risk his “Forbes Top 100 Company” to become bankrupt. Considering that both Facebook & Instagram sustain a significant percentage of their profits through advertising, the strategies implored by Starbucks is detrimental to daily operations at this social media corporation.
The Response from Zuckerberg
Mark Zuckerberg responded to the forced actions of global retailers, going against these individuals & claiming their advertisements have been racially profiled for prolonged periods through Facebook. The CEO demanded that retail advertisements regarding sexual orientation, national origin, race, ethnicity, religious affiliation, gender identity, and immigration status will be barred. It’ll be almost impossible to create personnel advertisements on Facebook going forward, which was purposely done by Zuckerberg in a vindictive manner.
